In my LiveJournal, the tradition has been perpetuated of writing down thirteen random things for an entry. This comes in especially handy when you're not sure what you want to write, but want to churn out a decently sized entry. So here goes:
1. An Annika-ism from yesterday, as I was sucking on a lollipop: "Mom, are you smoking?"
2. Today, from a pathetically sick Afton: "I wan' jellybean and butter!" We were having PBJ for lunch.
3. Afton has an infection, a nightly fever and some congestion. Poor kid. She's on antibiotics now.
4. Annika was on antibiotics last month. This is beginning to feel like a far too regular thing.
5. Annika had a spectacular setback in the whole potty-training thing. We had accidents galore this weekend, on top of Afton being sick. It wasn't fun to hang out with us, that's for sure.
6. Except when the kids were in bed! We've started a new thing, in which we invite the younger, childless couples in the ward over for dessert and games. It's far from being a tradition, as we've only done it twice, but it was a great success both times. There will be repeats.
7. We played Life, that ever popular board game, for the first time in a long time on Friday and enjoyed it very much. Hint, hint to whomever has our name for Christmas!
8. Slowly but surely I am catching up on my project list, which includes sewing clothing of some sort for all of us. I think Annika is ready for her first nightgown. She's been sleeping in one of my favorite t-shirts for the past few days and I despair of ever getting it back.
9. I do believe we've moved into the terrible threes. The terrible twos weren't so bad, but Annika is all defiance and limits-testing lately. It's no fun. And hard on the ears, what with the ear-piercing shrieks and all.
10. I'm not gonna make it to thirteen things, as we have errands to run, dinner to make, FHE to plan/enjoy, and sick and/or tantrum-y kids to put to bed.
11. Oooh! Also for Christmas, I would like this: FHE board
A mahogany-colored board with cream lettering in the Black Jack font.
12. While I'm doing a wish list, I would also like LASIK surgery, a nice bedroom set, and a house. Not necessarily in that order. *sigh* We're ready to move out of the "student budget" stage, I think.
13. Random Recommendations:
Documentary--New York Doll (about the bassist of the punk rock band New York Dolls who converts to the LDS church and his reaction to their reunion, some twenty-odd years later).
Movie-- Mobsters and Mormons (a mafioso is put in the witness protection program in suburban Utah. We liked it).
Books--Twilight and New Moon, by Stephenie Meyer (a young adult lit adventure/romance between a vampire and a mortal girl. PERFECTLY clean). Also, the Anne of Green Gables series for a nostalgic re-read.
Food--Oreo Cindercake (Oreo crust, Dreyer's mint ice cream middle, pecan/Oreo/chocolate syrup topping. SO GOOD. Also very fattening.)
There you go. And there might be pictures in the next post, if you're good.

Good luck with those threes! Ugh.
Jake and I used to invite over the no-kid couples, but pretty soon they all formed a "no-kid" club, and now they're mostly the "1-kid" club, and it's hard for them to find time for us. Latley, we make them come and put their kids to bed at our house. Ha ha ha ha ha!! Anyway, now that we're turning 30 maybe we're old fogies and they don't like us anymore.
Yeah, we have the caveat that we're moving next summer, so even if they all drop us, it won't matter.
And since when is turning 30 old fogey-hood? ;) Because I only have six months or so left.... Does this mean I have to start dying my gray hair away?
This is a good journaling idea...I'll have to give it a try. I also want lasik, a bedroom set, and a house. Who knows when all of that will actually happen?!
