First, a picture of Afton on the eve of her birthday:

I'm sure it's a just a sampling of what to expect in about ten years or so.
But on to Afton's birthday! We started Friday morning, with the unwrapping of gifts. As you can see, Afton first chose to unwrap herself.

She hugged the gift bag, sure there were fabulous goodies inside. It is possible she was hoping for a lifetime supply of Dum-Dums, like the one she's sporting here.

Unwrapping made easy! And what will she find inside?

"I'll love him and squeeze him and call him Pooh!" (Not an exact quote.) She also received four Clifford books and a Nemo plush. What can I say? The local Disney outlet was having a clearance sale.

From Nana and Granddad in TX--non-messy yet still breakable eggs. And the fun begins!

The official birthday loot mugshot. Pooh seems to be winking, but I'm not sure it's deliberate. All items artfully arranged by Mat.
After a brief lunch and a mercifully long nap, we took ourselves off to Peter Piper Pizza. Flashing lights, buttons to push that wouldn't get her into trouble--it was Afton's dream come true.

Afton wasn't so sure about the seesaw ride with Baby Kermit, so we moved on.

Ahh, playplaces. They may be awfully dirty, but they save my sanity now and again.

This is what I get when I ask for a smile. Sheesh!

Afton's birthday cake--cake made by Karie, frosting made and applied by Mat. Doesn't it look yummy?

Afton had great fun blowing out the candles. She got one on the first try, and the second one with a little help from her sister.

Dissecting the cake. Did I mention it's a red velvet cake? With a full 1/4 cup of red food dye in it? Still yummy though.

Afton's hands postmortem.

She REALLY enjoyed that cake. Thankfully the food dye washes off pretty easily.

"Did you love your cake, Afton?" This would be her reaction.

And this would be our bass-mouth baby/big girl in action. I'm not pressing down her mouth with the fork. She just unhinged her jaw and waited.
We're glad to have this active, happy, vociferous little girl in our family. She loves us violently, and we love her. Next up: Potty-training and losing the binky.

what a cute kid. did she only turn two? or is it three? and if it was two...how'd she get so much hair?!
Thanks! She's two. Both of my kids have been quite blessed in the hair department. That and I haven't really cut hers yet. I'll do it someday--about the same day that she sits still. HA!
Looks like a fun birthday. You are brave giving red velvet cake to a child . . .
What!? We missed her birthday! I am such a slacker! What a cute girl you have there! And she is lucky to have a mom like you! Ya, good luck on the potty training!

Cute, cute, CUTE!! I love the post-mordem exam shot. Gives me some ideas for Myles's 1st birthday party...
