The Boy Crawls

First, a cute picture of the sisters so they don't feel too left out:

Because I will be the first one to admit that the baby now takes up the largest percentage of my blog posts lately. Not that anybody's complaining. Except maybe for the aforementioned sisters. They'll live.

So I was folding laundry the other day when The Boy crawled over to investigate. Sooner or later he'll learn that you don't look cute while Momma's doing something boring or she might do things to you. To wit:

It's pure torture, can't you tell?

This is one of my favorite tricks--The Sideways Binky:

He thinks he's quite funny.

Pre-bedtime shenanigans:

Note the baby's position. I put him there and then started taking pictures.

Hey look! He flipped over. Easily. He's had lots and LOTS of practice.

And now he's crawled over and found the Momma. That winning smile usually gets him picked up.

The Boy in action....

Sticking out his tongue.

Crawling towards something VERY interesting. No idea what it is.

He also likes to pull himself up on furniture and cruise along. He's still working on landing on his diaper instead of falling straight backwards, though. I'm sure he'll get it. Someday.

PINK Party!

On Saturday we had Miss Bubbly's birthday party. (She turned 5, in case you missed the memo.) Originally, I was going to do a surprise birthday party in a ladybug theme, but then I decided keeping it a surprise was too much work. So I asked Miss Bubbly what she wanted, and after some discussion we came up with a pink party (partly inspired by Pink Me Up by Charise Harper). I loved how the decor turned out, even though I'm not that big a fan of pink.

We kept it simple--had the party at a park with a playground nearby, colored pictures of fairies when it turned out to be too hot to play, decorated cupcakes, ate cupcakes, opened gifts, colored some more. (The coloring saved me--I expected them to play more than they did.) I do believe a good time was had by all. Miss Bubbly certainly enjoyed herself!

Arkansas 2010

So we went up for a quick visit to the Arkansas relatives and had a lot of fun! It was great to meet our newest relation, Savvy:

(The Boy is fascinated that Savvy has a back to her head too. Every time he manages to find his, he'll grab the hair and play with it for a while.)

She and The Boy are only about six weeks apart.

We also took a day trip out to Terra Studios, where the girls were treated like princesses (and my aunt took awesome photos with her awesome camera):
Miss Bubbly peeked at some gnomes going about their daily business:
We all tried our hand at the Labyrinth:

And my sister-in-law and I compared slings:

I love this shot of The Hub and The Eldest:

The studios had some great picture-taking areas and my aunt was kind enough to take all the photos. The kids had a ton of fun--it was a great day!

The Baby Has No Teeth!

It was a quiet Sunday morning. The Boy and I woke up before everyone else and decided to eat by ourselves. Due to a lack of chatter or what have you, the baby decided to entertain himself. It was too funny not to record! Enjoy.

Pictures of The House

OK, I'm playing with Picasa and learning how it works, so bear with me.

On the other hand, it was ridiculously easy to make this entry, even if I can't label all the photos. Included are pictures of the garage conversion (blue walls, blue carpet), the master bedroom (purple walls (!)), and the very mismatched kitchen, among others.

(Click on the picture to access the entire album.)

I'll learn, I promise.

You see this, Arizona friends? GREEN! This park is a five-minute drive from my apartment, but the whole city looks like this. ALL YEAR. Same with the river--IT ALWAYS HAS WATER IN IT. What a novel concept.

I love it. It's totally worth the humidity. And the bugs, even. Being here makes me happy.

P.S. Don't mind my inability to take good pictures. I have no training. I'm just happy I can get the camera to focus on my kids' faces!

One of Those Days

First, a quick note on The Hub's birthday/Father's Day. I made these for Father's Day:

By the way, that is NOT my picture. Nor were my creations quite so perfect. (Perfection, and the recipe, can be found here.) But I didn't get a picture of them before The Hub took them to PEC and shared them with some of the other fathers he serves with.

For his birthday, The Hub got two certificates to a SCUBA diving intro class--he doesn't need the intro, but I do if I ever want to go SCUBA diving with him. So that should be a fun date. And I got him a copy of Surround Yourself with Greatness by Chad Lewis--a biography by a BYU football player. Could there BE a more perfect gift for The Hub? I submit that there could not.

So that was fun. I'm glad to remember that, because today was a pooper-scooper for me in the diabetic field. We went to see Miss Bubbly's endocrinologist, and subsequently I was shown my many mistakes as the parent of a diabetic. THAT'S always fun. Now, we did switch basal (all-day/long-acting) insulins just three months ago, but I thought we had things more under control than we did. Miss Bubbly's A1C showed us up--it was higher (by .2%) than it was last quarter.

Dang it.

So I've got to monitor her numbers more carefully (including the dreaded 3AM checks for the next few days) and adjust her ratios accordingly. The hard part for me is that we just passed her one-year anniversary and I thought I had a handle on things! Obviously not. So frustrating. So disappointing! The diabetes nurse educator did say that things tend to get wonky around the one-year mark, as that's when the pancreas will give out completely. So between that and only kind of understanding the new insulin, that's where we ran into problems.

(deep breath) It'll get better. It'll get better. (deep breath)
