The Anomaly's Room

Once upon a time, I had a baby boy. Having had two girls previous to his arrival, I was a little mystified as to what to do with him. Pink and ruffles and flowers and horses just didn't seem to be his thing.

When we bought the house, the easy thing to do was paint his room blue. Boy=blue. But it just sat there, naked, with some curtains left over from dwelling in various apartments. I had vague ideas about painting clouds on his walls, but that's about as far as it got, as pregnancy interrupted my life again.

And then the dilemma came. This last baby of mine is a girl! I know girls. But she will be sharing a bedroom with her brother. No pink. No ruffles. No flowers. Uh oh.

The inspiration began in Hobby Lobby. Wandering through the clearance section, we came across this, mostly because The Boy kept making his sign for car and saying "vroom vroom":

The Boy likes cars! One mystery solved.
But there was a reason the picture was in the clearance section:

Hello, Big Ugly Gouge.
Enter scrapbooking paper picked out by The Eldest and some Mod Podge and voila!

Picture looks brand new.

But there will be sharing of the room. That's when it dawned on me: The black and white checks looked a little like gingham. One of the crib sheets is yellow gingham. The crib bumper is blue and yellow. GIRLS CAN LIKE YELLOW.

So my genius mother-in-law tracked down yellow gingham for me and sewed some curtains. Now the room looks more like this:

Notice the walls:

Yep, those are clouds!

I think a boy and a girl can share this room for a while, don't you? She might grow up to be a Rangers fan who likes cars, but that's no bad thing....

Other things I have perfected in the girly department:

Birthday gift for the little girl next door. According to my girls, she loves them. It's nice to get something right every once in a while!

Love all the decorations. Nice curtains. What a good idea to make the room work for both a boy and a girl.

WELL done!! Love the clouds. Very well reasoned out, and yellow is a great choice. Green works too. So you win!!! Yes, it is very nice, once in a while, to get something right. Some day, I hope to have the experience.
