For the Arizona Readers of Yellow Watermelon

Back in August, a young couple from Mesa were in a private plane crash. The instructor flying with them was killed, but they somehow survived. The husband, Christian Nielson, had burns over 30% of his body, but his wife, Stephanie Nielson, was 80% burned.

Out of this terrible event has arisen a marvelous amount of charity. Stephanie kept a blog in celebration of motherhood and attracted many readers over the years. These readers are banding together in every way imaginable to raise money for the NieNie Recovery Fund, a fund established to assist Nielsons with their hospital bills and so forth. For more details, you can read Stephanie's blog or her sister Courtney's blog.

Christian Nielson and I went to the same high school, though I didn't know him personally. This vague connection still impels me to do what I can to spread the word about the concert coming up on October 25th (next Saturday). Mindy Gledhill is one of Stephanie Nielson's childhood friends, and all the profits from this concert are going to the NieNie Recovery Fund. The concert will be at Mountain View High School at 7pm. Mt. View HS is located at 2700 E. Brown Rd in Mesa. Tickets ($15) are available at www.mindygledhill.com.

If you have the time, if you have the funds, if you need a good date idea for next weekend, consider going to the concert and supporting this young couple. Thanks.
