Next up on the thankful list is my husband Mat. He's thoughtful, funny, patient, spiritual, and so fantastic with the children. Sometimes I tease him about being a human cartoon when he's with them, but it's true. Playing with the kids makes him the most animated. They adore him for it.
It was his thoughtfulness that first attracted me to him. We met at one of the huge BYU dances at the beginning of Fall Semester 2000. His roommates had known my roommates the year previously, as his roommates had been good home teachers to my roommates and therefore my roommates still liked them, so when they spotted each other in the crushing crowd, we stuck with them the entire night. Being the odd men out, as it were, Mat and I were thrown together and he asked me to dance. (Ironic, isn't it? Neither one of us likes dancing all that much.) A few days later, we were at one of my roommates' friends' homes, watching Waking Ned Devine. Mat and I got stuck sitting in an awkward place on the floor and would have been tremendously uncomfortable for the duration of the movie. So Mat ran up to the loft where we'd all been playing board games earlier and grabbed a couple of cushions from the couch--one for him and one for me. I was so impressed that I tried to hold his hand. Unfortunately for me, the movie put him to sleep. We were a little more successful later.
He's been my best friend, my confidante, for the last seven and a half years. He's stuck with me through all of my hormonal temper tantrums (I'm so much fun when I'm pregnant!) and everything else I've thrown at him (thought the only thing I've literally thrown at him is a football and he knew it was coming, as we were playing catch at the time). I couldn't ask for a better husband.

It's fun to hear your "how we met" story. Glad you're so happy with your partner!
I'm impressed that you tried to hold his hand!
What a nice tribute! I'm going to do one later in the month to my husband (on our anniversary).
She gives me far to much credit. Someday I'll have to let everyone else know how much more she puts up with and does for me.
Sure he's thoughtful, but who spells Matt with one t; short for Mateo? My husband has had more things fly at him than a football, but that's marraige. I grew up with all those BYU zoobies and I can just picture you guys in my head.
Cute story. I believe Jake and I held hands for the first time in Waking Ned Divine. Very fishy.
So cute! I like the story about how you met. :)
It only makes sense to spell Mat with one t when you spell Mathew with one t. Why waste the space or ink with a second t when it doesn't get pronounced? My mom was thinking green long before it was cool.
Makes sense. Go green. But if you think about it, in an entire lifetime you'll probably save an hour and half an ink pen by not writing another t, but lots of hours wasted explaining it to ricardo's like me.
